CENTER FOR COMPASSIONATE SOCIAL CHANGE Connecting * Transforming * Healing The Center for Compassionate Social Change (CCSC) was started in 2000 to connect global issues such as human rights, peace, the environment, globalization and social justice. Grounded in the belief that progressive social change is urgently needed for this broken world, the CCSC aims to inform and encourage people to "connect the dots" between seemingly separate issues. The truth is that the quests for social and ecological justice are deeply interconnected. SocialChangeNow.ca is the main project of the Center for Compassionate Social Change - an online resource center that introduces and connects issues, and links to groups working for change. In 2001, the CCSC founded the Victoria Earth Rights Network (VERN), to educate citizens about connections between human rights and the environment, and to empower action. VERN does this through the internet, its e-mail list, and at public information tables. To educate about the perils of the BC Treaty Referendum, we created Oppose the Referendum, an online resource centre about how citizens of BC can stand up for aboriginal justice.
We are associated with the Victoria EcoEcumenical Community House, an intentional community linking spirituality with social justice, ecology and activism. After the events of September 11, 2001, the CCSC started Wage Peace Now!, an online resource center of alternative perspectives on terrorism and war. Compassionate social change can only happen when people realize their interdependence with all life, and stand up in greater and greater numbers and address the problems of poverty, environmental degradation, war, prejudice, human rights, and the excesses of our economic system. All oppressions are linked and rooted in structures of power. We are all called to be protectors, healers, and prophets. The Center for Compassionate Social Change is committed and pledged to non-violence. We believe this is at the heart of compassion. The result was a huge leap in military spending, and a crackdown on hard-earned civil liberties at home. Justice for First Nations! ![]() click image to enter |
