Victoria Earth Rights Network


The Victoria Earth Rights Network (VERN) was founded in June 2001 to educate citizens about connections between the environment and human rights, and to empower them to take action. The network is a project of the Center for Compassionate Social Change.

"Earth rights" is not a common phrase - yet - but it is a very simple concept. It stresses that human rights, the environment, and many important issues such as labour rights, social justice and peace, are all interconnected. As environmentalists, or human rights activists, or social justice advocates, we cannot afford to separate or isolate our concerns.

Earth rights defender murdered in Mexico -- Amnesty International Canada, (24 October 2001)
